  1. The zipped package is the Documentation File for SCANCAT-GOLD's DEMO.
  2. It is advised to use a viewer such as the included utility viewer
  3. "VIEW.COM", which is invoked by typing "VIEW SCANCAT.DOC".
  4. Using this program you can view the enclosed SCANCAT.DOC file
  5. Use VIEW'S help keys to help you view or print to a printer 
  6. the documentation. This doc file is not as complete as the manual 
  7. with the full version, but should enable you find most 
  8. of the features of SCANCAT-GOLD.

  13.           SCANCAT-GOLD now includes a utility program that enables you
  14.           to examine or modify the BANDPLAN and reprogram the EEPROM area
  15.           of the AR-8000 Handheld. This is not advertised in our ADS 
  16.           nor is it documented in the manual. This is a powerful tool, 
  17.           and use of this utility to restore frequency ranges that are 
  18.           locked out is not legal. Computer Aided Technologies will 
  19.           not be held responsible for the AR8000 utility program's misuse.

  23.           SCANCAT NOW SUPPORTS THE NEW AR8000, AOR'S NEW WIDE BAND
  24.           HANDHELD SCANNER. These simple setup instructions will 
  25.           assure your being able to control this radio if you have
  26.           the proper interface.

  28.           ON PAGE 101 OF YOUR AR-8000 MANUAL, YOU WILL SEE THE SAMPLE 
  29.           SCREEN OF THE HANDHELD, SHOWING THE INTERFACE PARAMETERS.
  30.           The "DELIM" must be set for CR (only). If you have problems
  31.           communicating with the radio, check this setting. IF IT IS
  32.           SHOWN AS "CR,LF" the software cannot communicate properly
  33.  
  34.           Secondly, it is recommended that you set "BPS" (BAUD) to 9600.
  35.                             That's all there is to it!

  39.                      ******* HF-1000 WATKINS JOHNSON ******

  41.           SCANCAT NOW SUPPORTS THE NEW HF-1000 WATKINS JOHNSON HF RECEIVER.
  42.           The squelch, scanning settings are set by pressing the
  43.           ","  and the "."  (comma and period) keys. This will raise or
  44.           lower the "threshold" grid on the signal strength indicator. 
  45.           If you radio is NOT scanning, then adjust this threshold setting.
  46.           Once the grid COVERS  the signal strength, scanning will resume
  47.           until the signal again exceeds the threshold.

  53. IF THIS DEMO IS ALREADY SET UP TO RUN ON THE OPTOSCAN OS456, PLEASE READ
  54. THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW or ENCLOSED WITH THIS DEMO REGARDING INITIAL 
  55. SQUELCH  SETTINGS IF YOU HAVE DIFFICULTIES GETTING THE RADIO TO 
  56. STOP SCANNING.

  58.                Special Instructions for OPTO ELECTRONICS OS456
  59.  
  60.       The OS456 board supports squelch detection through software 
  61.    as well as several special data types  for CTCSS, DCS and 
  62.    DTMF tone decoding.  In order to optimize the transfer of data to 
  63.    the computer, certain timing adjustments should be made.  Because 
  64.    there are so many variables due to computer processor speeds, graphics 
  65.    type and etc, when you use SCANCAT for the first time,  you should 
  66.    adjust ONE TIME this setting.

  68. FIRST:
  69.  
  70.   Select either SCANNING between two frequencies, OR SCANNING a
  71.   disk file.  from the "A" option menu (selected at the 
  72.   main menu). 
  73.  
  74.   IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING  SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATION:
  75.  
  76.   Once the computer is scanning, OPEN THE SQUELCH CONTROL 
  77.   COMPLETELY COUNTER CLOCKWISE.  
  78.  
  79. SECOND:
  80.  
  81.   Adjust the timing by pressing either the "[" or "]" keys. 
  82.   These keys are located just above the ENTER key and to the right of 
  83.   the letter "P".  As you move the timing either UP or DOWN in value, 
  84.   you will notice a message in the long window .<N>At some point, the 
  85.   signal strength indicator will start working. There will be a LEFT 
  86.   MOST and a RIGHT MOST value at which the signal will not be indicated. 
  87.   Choose the MIDPOINT  value to assure accurate response. DO NOT MAKE 
  88.   THIS ADJUSTMENT TOO QUICKLY (Holding down the keys) or you can pass 
  89.   over the value before seeing the signal strength. ALSO pressing the 
  90.   SHIFT AND "[" or "]" keys multiplies the value incremented by a value 
  91.   of 10 times. That's all there is to it.

  93.          These values are a hint to get you "in the ball park":

  95.                 Start with a value aroung .00002 to .00019
  96.  
  97.                           CTCSS / DCS  TONE SEARCH
  98.  
  99.    SCANCAT-GOLD will read  (and  auto-log) squlech tones. 
  100.    You can search BY these tones by pressing the "=" (equal) key. IF 
  101.    you are listening to a frequency that is displaying a tone, that tone 
  102.    will be automatically added into the input prompt area.  Pressing 
  103.    "=" again toggles OFF the search by tone feature.

  105.    All other features supported are the same for ANY radio SCANCAT supports.
